Hey Infinities, this article is not about the life of the Ruler of Mysore : Tipu Sultan who ruled for over 17 years. In this article, you'll get to know about the Unsaid and Dark Truth of Tipu Sultan.
Is Tipu Sultan : the ruler of Mysore, one of the heroes of independent India? In the womb of this question is the recent proposal, which was presented by the Samajwadi Party before a committee of the country's richest Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). It demanded that a garden in Mumbai be named after Tipu Sultan. It is true that the decision on this was deferred after protests by some Hindu organizations. But this is not the first time an attempt has been made to glorify Tipu in the country. Last month in Andhra Pradesh too, there was an attempt by the MLA of ruling YSR Congress to install a statue of this ruler. The main opposition JD(S) and Congress in Karnataka are in favor of celebrating Tipu Sultan's birth anniversary at the state level and he has done so several times while in power,
Mysore was ruled by Tipu Sultan for 17 years (1782-1799). Well-proclaimed secularists, a community section (including public representatives) and a swathe of Left historians have distorted historical evidence to portray Tipu Sultan as a patriot, a freedom fighter and a great ruler who believed in secular values. If Tipu was really an Indian freedom fighter, who fought the British for the country and on this basis, he along with great warriors and kings like Mangal Pandey, Rani Lakshmibai, Tatya Tope, Nana Sahib Peshwa-2 etc. Gandhiji, Sardar Patel, Bose etc. is referred as 'haram' in Pakistan? Is it not true that a section of the Indian subcontinent considers Qasim, Ghaznavi, Ghori, Babur, Aurangzeb and Tipu Sultan etc. as heroes because they all hated the Indian Sanantan culture and its symbols with the same mentality, which Pakistan was born in 1947 from the womb?
Ironically, Tipu Sultan is very much liked by that section of Indian society, for whom Hitler is apparently synonymous with hatred, anti-human pluralism and fascism. It is true that Tipu fought the British Empire. But the question is why did he do this?
In fact, Tipu was a 'Ghazi' who, like his other inspiring predecessors, had dreamed of establishing an Islamic empire in India and the British became a hindrance to it. In order to achieve his same goal, he had sought military assistance from Persia, Afghanistan, Turkey and other Muslim countries in addition to France. These facts are often told by a whole family as false propaganda of the British. In the background of the misleading narrative of Tipu Sultan by this clan, I would like to quote some of Tipu's letters which he sent to the military officers during hid reign. All these were obtained by historian Sardar KM Panikkar from the India Office Library in London.
Tipu Sultan's Inhumane Thinking
Tipu writes to Abdul Qadir on March 22, 1788, '12 thousand Hindus (including Brahmins) have been awarded Islam. It should be widely publicized among Hindus. Not a single Namboodiri (Brahman) should be spared.'
Similarly, on Decemeber 14, 1788, Tipu wrote to his army chief at Calicut, 'I'm sending two of my followers with Mir Hussain Ali. With their help, you have to capture and kill all the Hindus. Those who are below 20 years of age should should be put in jail, while the remaining 5000 should be hanged to death by hanging from trees. This is my order.'
On January 19, 1790, in a letter to Badroj Jumman Khan, Tipu wrote, 'Do you not know that I have recently achieved a great victory in Malabar and converted more than four lakh Hindus to Islam?'
Does this toxic chain of letters not reveal the true character of Tipu Sultan and his religious thoughts? If patriotism is synonymous with respect for the pluralistic sanatan culture of this country, its values and traditions, then it is undeniable to call the tyrant Tipu Sultan a patriot and tolerant on that test as true national heroes - from the tradition of Sikh Gurus to the Marathas, Rajput, Swami Vivekananda, Bhagat Singh, Chandrashekhar Azad, Gandhiji, Sardar Patel and Subhash Chandra Bose etc. are also included - all of them will be called an insult.
